Riverside House
The home is thoughtfully oriented north-north-east to fully capture and maximise breathtaking views across the vineyard, stretching towards the majestic Mount Aspiring. In addition, the design takes in sweeping vistas of the Cardrona River and the surrounding mountain ranges, creating a seamless connection between the indoors and the natural landscape. The sheltered northern side of the property provides an ideal location for an outdoor entertaining area, protected from prevailing winds and perfect for year-round use.
The clients sought a generous and flexible indoor/outdoor living space that offers both comfort and shelter, with the foresight to accommodate a future staged addition of a new pool. The design also called for a minimum of five bedrooms, including a versatile bonus room to serve a variety of potential needs. Positioned upstairs, the master suite was designed to be a private retreat, featuring a spacious ensuite bathroom and a walk-in robe for ample storage.
While the clients did not require an indoor fireplace, an outdoor fireplace was a key feature, envisioned to enhance the outdoor living and kitchen area—spaces that could seamlessly connect to an adjacent games room, fostering relaxed entertaining and family gatherings. The architectural style draws inspiration from classic Scandinavian design, enriched with subtle industrial and French country influences. This is reflected in the open-plan kitchen, which combines crisp white timber elements with contrasting materials, all complemented by durable, low-maintenance exterior cladding.
Inside, the living area was carefully planned to comfortably accommodate extended family events, balancing functionality with a warm, inviting atmosphere that encourages connection and celebration.
