Designed for a large family, the home features a separate guest and children’s wing that can be opened up during the warmer months, seamlessly blurring the boundary between indoor and outdoor living. Large, strategically placed openings frame the ever-changing alpine landscape, while a robust material palette responds directly to the demands of the site, providing a considered level of resilience against the potential fire risk of its natural setting. 

The design also pushes the limits of the buildable envelope, incorporating passive design principles to create a home that remains comfortable throughout every season in Wānaka.
