HOMESTEAD HOUSE

This new home reflected their strong values around sustainability, accessibility, and natural materials. Designed with LifeMark accessibility in mind, the home was both functional and inclusive.

The design consisted of three pavilions arranged around a central courtyard to maximise connection to the outdoors and capture the expansive western views. Each pavilion featured gabled roofs, connected by lower roofed links to create a harmonious, flowing layout.

Materially, the house combined local Oamaru stone cladding on the main living pavilion with dark-coloured corrugated metal on the other two pavilions and roof. The link structures were clad in horizontally-laid rusticated cedar weatherboards, adding warmth and texture. The overall architectural style was best described as an industrial-rustic pavilion home.

Integration of built-in bookshelves and ample wall space for artwork was a key part of the interior, reflecting the family's love of reading and art.

This home was a considered, responsive design that balanced practicality with character, delivering a long-awaited and much-needed space to enjoy for years to come.
